Melanie C has dropped a huge update on the highly-anticipated Spice Girls reunion, vowing she’s ready to ‘start planning’ it.

The 51-year-old singer revealed she’d love to reunite with her bandmates – Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham – to mark the 30th anniversary of Wannabe, the group’s 1996 hit single.

For years, fans have desperately been awaiting the news that the group are getting back together for a full-on reunion with all five of them, with speculation swirling even more than usual in recent years.

Four of the members, Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Baby, have reunited for various special performances after the band broke apart, with Victoria joining them for a one-off performance for the London Olympics in 2012, but not for their Spice World tour in 2019.

But now, Mel has given us some hope, telling Rebecca Judd On Apple Music 1: ‘There has to be something befitting of 30 years since Wannabe.

‘Once a Spice Girl, always a Spice Girl. We all feel like that, but we now are getting together because we know if we’re going to do anything, we have to start planning things to get things right.

‘We have to start making the plans right now and putting them into action. So fingers crossed.’

Melanie and Mel B are likely to be leading the calls to reunite.

Sporty Spice shared: ‘I think me and Mel B are probably going to be going in there all guns blazing, “Come on! It’s time!”‘

Last year, Melanie admitted that she would love to reunite with the Spice Girls. However, the chart-topping star also conceded that nothing was on the horizon at the time.

During an appearance on the Sidetracked podcast, Melanie explained: ‘I’d love to get back on stage with the girls but everybody wants to do something a little bit different or in a different way, so it’s just trying to get everyone on the same page at the same time.’

She also confirmed that she’d like to go on tour with the Spice Girls.

Asked about the prospect of the band going on tour, Melanie replied: ‘You’re talking to the wrong one. I’d be there next week.’

More recently, rumours have been swirling about the Spice Girls playing Glastonbury’s Legends slot, and last year, Mel B addressed the speculation, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘I would love to but I’m just one of five. So we’ve got to figure that out.’

Teasing reunion plans, she added: ‘I mean, we’re constantly in talks.

‘There is something that we’re going to be doing all five of us, but nothing’s going to be announced just yet.

‘But it will be pretty soon!’

She elsewhere confirmed they are ‘planning on releasing a statement’ about Victoria rejoining the group once again, but David Beckham recently denied speculation the five singers will take up performing as a group again, after an impromptu reunion during Victoria’s 50th birthday party, which he shared on social media.

‘I know it’s what people want, but in all honesty, I think I was the most excited of anyone,’ the footballer told Variety of the on-stage birthday reunion.

“The fact that, obviously, we had all of the girls in one room. All of the girls haven’t been on a stage together for over 15 years.’

‘It was an amazing moment,’ he went on, before shutting down any speculation of a Spice Girls tour reunion.

He continued: ‘Unfortunately, that’s not happening.

‘Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on. They will do certain things together at certain times.

‘But Victoria’s full on with her beauty and fashion businesses. If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her.’

The dad-of-four added that ‘there’s nothing more that I’d like to see than the girls on stage again’.

‘I’ll still work at it, don’t worry,’ the 49-year-old said.

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed!
